This will be the last of the Easter posts....I promise!
A few years ago, we started doing things a little different at Easter. We stopped buying presents to put in the kid's baskets!!!!! To be honest, the biggest thrill for our kids is finding the eggs, not necessarily what's in them. We continue to scale down the commercialism part of this beautiful holiday in an attempt to teach our children the real meaning of Easter.
This year they each got a few eggs that had a couple little candies in them. The little ones each had a small stuffed animal (recycled from past Easter's) in their baskets. These get put back in our Easter decoration box and will be pulled out again next year.
We talked a lot this year about Christ and the Resurrection. Our Easter dinner was a simple meal, with foods that we thought maybe they would have eaten during that time. We had flat bread with olive oil, hummus (which Isaiah ate by the handfuls!!), olives, cucumber dill dip, smoked salmon (ok, maybe they didn't have smoked salmon, but surely they had fish!), crackers, cucumbers and red peppers.
The kids loved the meal and we talked a lot about what life would have been like during that time.
We are putting a huge effort in trying to help our children understand just how blessed they are. More about that in a future post......
Now on to our next celebration: Sabrina's 15th birthday today!!!!!

great post. Too bad we did not get a picture of Isaiah taking a handful of the hummas... that was funny.
