Whew!

Well, that was quite a week!!!  Tuesday morning when I got to the hospital, I could tell right away that Zach's level of care was not what it should have been.  Without going into all the details, I could see right away that I was going to need to let a few nurses know what I expected.  I was really disappointed after having such good care in the past.

I was more than a little stressed about leaving him there that night, but I said a prayer and then went out to the nurse's station and told them exactly what I expected that night!  Do not mess with this Mama!

He looked much better this morning when I got there!  I was still a little crabby when they told me about a few things that happened in the night but I took a deep breath and tried to be polite.

We were able to go home this afternoon!  Zach is doing really well and is adjusting to all his changes!  I will post a couple of pics so you can see the progress he's making!  His lip/nose area is still very swollen and will be for awhile.  The area around his nostrils has started to bruise as well.

His G-tube is doing great and no problems with his ear tubes!

This was taken right after surgery!  He was pretty wiped out!!

This was taken today! You can see the two stitch lines and the bruising on his lip/nose.  His nose looks crooked but it's just because of the swelling!  That little bump that used to sit outside of his mouth is now tucked inside and attributes to some of the swelling.  Eventually, his lip will push it even further back and it will be out of the way!

Wow, that is so frustrating that they didn't fulfill your expectations for Zach! Thank goodness he is home now with the best caregivers around!

I have been updating my mom on his progress because her first child had cleft palette/lip and it is something very dear to her heart. (He passed away an hour after birth.) She told me to tell you to massage his scar once it heals and that that will reduce the appearance of the scar dramatically. It is something she has heard from other people whose children had the surgery. I tried to find information about it online, but it was all anecdotal, none of it from an actual organization or hospital. I guess that is something you would discuss with your plastic surgeon. But I have done my duty to pass the information along as instructed.

Thank you Sandi!!! And thank your mother as well! I will certainly look into that! I know Vitamin E oil is good for helping other scars heal....did she say anything about using that when you massage?

I think it was just the pressure and the stimulation she was talking about, although when I was reading online comment boards a lot of parents recommended various creams (mederma was one) that were meant to diminish the appearance of scars. Vitamin E was also mentioned. Do a Google search on "cleft lip scar massage" and you'll find a lot of online forums and support groups for parents of children with cleft lip/palette.

So wonderful! I've been hoping for updates, and just checking FB. Silly me! Why didn't I think to check your blog this week, like I have before.

Love you all! Does this mean the blog get's a new, clever title? If you can one up the last & current, that'll be super impressive.

Get some sleep & snuggles!
